"Merengues"

Makes 12

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup egg whites
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vinegar

Preparation:

Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding one cup of sugar. Add alternate quantities of remaining sugar and vinegar. Place tablespoonfuls of this mixture (3" wide and 1" thick) on a baking sheet lined with lightly greased paper. Bake at 275 degrees for 40 mins. When cold,, serve filled with ice cream or jam.
