Cuban Bread

  • 1 tbs salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 and 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 envelope active dry yeast


Preheat oven to 400F. In bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Set aside for 3 to 5 minutes. Until it foams. In a food processor with a steel blade, combine flour and salt. Pulse to blend. Turn machine on and add yeast mixture. Add olive oil, slowly add remaining lukewarm water so dough becomes smooth. Stop machine as soon as ingredients blend. Transfer dough to lightly oiled bowl. Cover with damp cloth, let rise for thirty minutes. Roll dough into loaf shape. Place in loaf pan and brush top with beaten egg and water mixture. Make three diagonal slices, 1/8 inch deep , across top of bread, bake 35 minutes. Serve and enjoy.
